Time Blocking vs. Flexibility: What Works for You as a Realtor?

Time Blocking vs. Flexibility: What Works for You as a Realtor?

As a real estate agent, there’s no one-size-fits-all method to running a successful business. Sure, some agents swear by time blocking, scheduling specific tasks at set hours during the day. But for me? That doesn’t work. And here’s why.

When I time block, I don’t restrict myself to a rigid schedule that says, “From 9 AM to 10 AM, I’ll only focus on client calls,” or “From 2 PM to 3 PM, I’ll be working on emails.” Instead, I time block on certain days, depending on what’s on my plate. This flexibility allows me to better serve my clients, many of whom work in demanding fields like law enforcement and healthcare. Their schedules don’t always fit within a rigid, traditional time-blocking structure, and I don’t expect them to.

Being a flexible agent is crucial for me. I always set clear expectations with my clients—here are my working hours, and these are the times I will respond to messages, calls, and emails. But if something urgent comes up, I’m willing to make exceptions. The key is setting those expectations upfront and being transparent about when I’ll be available and when I won’t. It helps keep the process smooth and avoids misunderstandings.

Now, do you time block? I’d love to hear your thoughts! Whether you’re a time-blocker or prefer a more flexible approach like mine, both methods can lead you to success—it all depends on how you run your business.
